American Rapper, DDG Dismisses Safety Fears, Says Nigeria Safer Than the US

American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., better known as DDG, has pushed back against what he described as long-standing misinformation about Nigeria, insisting the country is far safer than it is often portrayed abroad.

DDG, who is currently spending his holiday in Lagos, said many of the stories pushed by Western media about Nigeria do not reflect the reality on ground. According to him, the country’s image has been shaped more by exaggeration than facts.

In a video shared online, the rapper compared Nigeria’s security situation with that of the United States, arguing that America faces more frequent and deadly incidents of violence.

“I honestly think the United States is more dangerous,” DDG said. “Nigeria is nowhere near as dangerous as people make it sound. That’s just the truth.”

He acknowledged that Nigeria, like many countries, has its security challenges, but stressed that gun violence and gang-related crimes are far less common than what is seen regularly in parts of the US.

“Of course, there are issues here, but it’s not the kind of everyday gun violence you see back home,” he added. “If you’re thinking of coming to Nigeria, just come and see it for yourself.”

The rapper also shared some of the warnings he received before travelling to Nigeria, including claims that local food was unhealthy and that drinking water was unsafe unless boiled.
However, his experience proved otherwise.

“I was told all kinds of things,” DDG said. “But the food here is actually very healthy. I’ve been eating well — especially jollof. I love it.”

His comments have sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians welcoming his remarks as a refreshing counter to negative stereotypes often associated with the country.

DDG has previously expressed interest in Nigeria and has hinted on several occasions about relocating or investing in the country, particularly Lagos, which he describes as vibrant and full of life.
