If you have ever considered traveling to Bolivia, then we’re here to tell you that it must move to the top of your travel bucket list right now. It’s one of the most underrated countries to visit. While many travelers who head to South America flock to places like Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia, Bolivia is home to many natural wonders and treasures that will absolutely take your breath away. One of the most exciting places to visit in Bolivia is Salar de Uyuni, which happens to be the world’s largest salt flat.

The vast salt flat is not only gorgeous, but fascinating as well. It it a remainder of Lake Ballivian, along with still-existing lakes Titicaca and Poopo. The Salar is one of the flattest spots in the entire world, which explains its altitude variation of just about 41 centimeters, perfect for calibrating a GPS.

If you visit during the summer, you’ll see an incredible sight caused by a thing layer of water that covers the area, making it look like a giant natural mirror. This creates a beautiful effect as the sky blends into the earth, a truly remarkable sight. In winter, it is a host for snowfall, but you should be prepared for strong winds as well.

In addition to visiting the salt flats, there are two other attractions nearby you cannot skip. The first are the local lagoons and the Eduardo Avaroa National Park. At this reserve of Andean fauna, you’ll find stunning sights as perhaps even catch a glimpse of three very rare types of flamingoes. You’ll find gorgeous lagoons alongside sandy desserts and fascinating rock formations, all in one location.

Lastly, you should absolutely make time to see the Dali Desert and the Green Lagoon. The Dali Desert, which is named for the famous artist Salvador Dali, can also be found inside the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. It was named after the artist because its landscapes are so reminiscent of Dali’s surrealist paintings.
