Former Arsenal Goalkeeper And England Youth Player Makes Nigeria Debut
Former Arsenal academy goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has made his senior debut for Nigeria, helping the Super Eagles secure a 2-0 friendly win over Zimbabwe with a clean sheet.

Okonkwo, who currently plays for Wrexham, previously represented England at youth level. However, because he never played competitive matches for England, he was eligible to switch and represent Nigeria without FIFA approval.
The London-born goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes in the victory and is expected to remain part of Nigeria’s squad for upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June.
Although Okonkwo could still represent England in the future under FIFA rules, he would need to wait three years before making another international switch.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but Okonkwo’s debut marks an important step in his international career with the Super Eagles.
