A Ghanaian football fan, Mohammed Huzeinu, has been sentenced to 100 days in prison after invading the pitch during the Black Stars’ game against Chad.

The incident occurred on March 21, 2025, during Ghana’s impressive 5-0 victory at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Huzeinu, aged 21, ran onto the field and approached Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo, disrupting the match before security intervened and escorted him off the pitch.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) took swift legal action, as pitch invasions are considered serious security breaches.

In a statement issued on March 25, 2025, the GFA condemned the fan’s actions, warning of potential financial consequences.

“This type of disruption not only affects the game but could lead to hefty fines from international football authorities,” the GFA expressed.

They also pointed out that this was notb the first time such an incident had occurred, revealing that they had previously been fined a total of $30,000 for similar incidents in Cape Coast and Kumasi.

“We paid a $10,000 fine for the Cape Coast pitch invasion and another $20,000 for the one in Kumasi. We now face the risk of additional penalties from CAF,” the GFA’s statement continued.

The GFA stressed the importance of upholding security protocols during matches, as pitch invasions pose significant risks to the safety of players and staff.

“We urge fans to respect the regulations in place to maintain order and prevent further disruptions. These incidents harm not only the reputation of our national football team but also the broader image of Ghana on the international stage,” the GFA said.

Huzeinu’s sentencing sends a clear message to all fans about the importance of respecting match-day rules and avoiding actions that jeopardize the safety and integrity of the game.
