Imo, Nigeria: Police Dismiss Viral Claim of Mass Kidnapping on Ngor-Okpala Road

The Imo State Police Command has dismissed widespread social media claims alleging that dozens of passengers were abducted along the Ngor-Okpala axis, describing the reports as false and capable of causing needless public alarm.

The clarification came after a video resurfaced online claiming that 14 travellers moving between Owerri and Aba were kidnapped in the area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, explained in a statement that the footage was not recent but tied to an incident that occurred earlier in the year.

According to him, the original case was thoroughly investigated at the time, and security agencies successfully secured the victims’ freedom.

He stressed that the recycled video was now being used by mischief-makers to sow panic among residents and travellers.

Okoye quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, as urging the public to disregard the misleading clip, warning against the circulation of unverified content that could heighten tension across the state.

He added that security personnel, working with other agencies and community vigilantes, have been strategically deployed along the Owerri–Aba corridor, especially with the festive season approaching.

Residents and commuters were advised to remain calm but alert and to report suspicious activity to the nearest police formation or through the command’s emergency line: 0803 477 3600.
