Lady Dies by Suicide in Anambra After Breakup With Boyfriend She Reportedly Had Abortions For
The Anambra State Police Command has begun an investigation into the suspected suicide of a 25-year-old female student in Onitsha.
Her body was discovered on June 18, 2026, and a note believed to be written by her was recovered at the scene.
The contents reportedly pointed to emotional distress linked to a relationship breakup with a man identified as Chigozie.
According to preliminary findings referenced in the note, the relationship was marked by difficult personal circumstances, including claims of multiple pregnancy terminations before the eventual breakup.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, confirmed that a full investigation has been launched.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for discreet handling.
He described the incident as deeply concerning and called for stronger emotional support systems for young people, alongside more active involvement from parents and guardians in monitoring their children’s well-being.
He also urged schools, community leaders, and religious bodies to strengthen mentorship and guidance structures aimed at helping youths cope with emotional and social pressures.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
