The Court of Appeal in Lagos has overturned the tribunal’s unanimous decision and confirmed Augustine Akobundu as the duly elected Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declared Darlington Gideon Nwokocha of the Labour Party as the winner, but Akobundu and the PDP challenged this result. After an appeal, the Court of Appeal upheld Akobundu as the rightful winner, ordering INEC to issue the Certificate of Return to him. This decision has reinstated Akobundu as one of the two PDP Senators from the South East Zone.
