Nigeria INEC accused of siding with APC as Dino Melaye raises alarm over ADC dispute
A former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is no longer neutral, claiming its recent actions suggest alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye, who is a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticised the electoral body over what he described as a misinterpretation of a court order.
He said the development has weakened public trust in INEC and raised concerns about its independence.
According to him, officials responsible for the decision should either be removed or step down, insisting that confidence in the commission has been significantly eroded.
The controversy follows the reported delisting of the ADC, which has triggered protests from party stakeholders.
Key political figures, including David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, were among those who demonstrated at INEC headquarters, calling for a review of the decision.
