Nigeria Students Beat Teacher to Death After He Tried to Stop Them from Gambling
A disturbing incident has unfolded at Soun High School in Oyo State, where a teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, lost his life after being attacked by his students while trying to stop them from gambling during school hours.
According to eyewitnesses, the teacher had confronted a group of students who were engaged in gambling inside their classroom.
The situation escalated when the
students turned violent, assaulting him and inflicting severe injuries, including broken limbs.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from the injuries he sustained.
A coalition of concerned teachers described the late Mr. Adegoke as a committed and disciplined educator who died upholding the values of order and responsibility in the classroom.
“Mr. Adegoke’s death is a painful reminder of the growing erosion of discipline among students. He stood for what was right and lost his life trying to protect the integrity of his profession,” the group said in a statement.
The teachers’ coalition called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and law enforcement agencies to bring those responsible to justice.
They also urged parents of the students involved to be held accountable for failing to instill moral discipline in their children.
The group further highlighted the need for stronger safety measures for teachers and renewed emphasis on moral education across Nigeria’s schools.
Efforts to reach the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for official comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the students responsible for the attack have fled, prompting outrage within the community and calls for swift action to protect teachers and restore discipline in the education system.
