Nigerian, US Forces Eliminate 175 ISIS Fighters In Northeast Offensive

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says a joint military operation involving Nigerian troops and the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has killed no fewer than 175 ISIS fighters in the North-East region.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, said the coordinated land and air assaults targeted key terrorist strongholds and logistics networks linked to the Islamic State group.

According to him, the operation, which began days ago, also led to the destruction of several terrorist checkpoints, weapons storage facilities, operational bases, military hardware and financial support structures used by the insurgents.

Uba disclosed that some top ISIS commanders were among those killed during the offensive, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as a major figure in the group’s international operations.

He said al-Minuki was deeply involved in coordinating recruitment, funding, logistics and planned attacks against civilian targets.

The DHQ spokesman noted that his death had significantly weakened the terrorists’ command chain and disrupted their operational activities.

Other senior figures reportedly neutralised include Abd-al Wahhab, said to be an ISWAP commander overseeing attacks and propaganda operations; Abu Musa al-Mangawi; and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, identified as a key media operative for the group.

The military authorities maintained that ongoing operations would continue until terrorist activities were completely dismantled across the region.
