A 32-year-old trader, Oluwatoyin Ibikunle, has petitioned the Akure Customary Court for a divorce after enduring physical abuse from her husband, Ayodeji, for years.
She described her marriage as unbearable, claiming her husband was “irresponsible” and “continually threatens my life.”
Oluwatoyin further testified that her father-in-law offered her ₦50,000 to leave her husband and become his lover.
She revealed, “My father-in-law even urged me to leave the marriage due to the suffering I’m enduring” and that he “asked me to marry him and offered me ₦50,000 in exchange for an affair.”
Oluwatoyin stated she could no longer endure the abuse, and requested custody of their children, asserting, “The love is gone.
I want custody of my children to provide them with a proper upbringing.” In contrast, Ayodeji denied the accusations, calling his wife a “miscreant” who prioritizes her business over their family. “I can’t live without her.
All she cares about is her business and her affairs with other men,” he claimed. The court hearing is scheduled to continue on January 28.
