The Nigerian government, through the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), has dismissed 15 officers and demoted 59 others after reviewing 231 disciplinary cases within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The decision was announced in a statement on Tuesday by Umar Abubakar, the Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer.

The CDCFIB’s actions followed an in-depth review by the Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC), which conducted thorough investigations into the cases. The Board emphasized that the disciplinary actions were necessary to maintain order and uphold the integrity of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Along with the dismissals and demotions, 42 officers were issued written warnings, 8 officers were compulsorily retired, and one officer had their rank revoked, with instructions to refund all payments made while holding the incorrect rank.

In addition, 16 officers were cleared of the allegations leveled against them, and seven remain suspended pending further investigation. One officer, due to the seriousness of their offense, has been referred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution.

The CDCFIB, led by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunde Ojo, reiterated its dedication to upholding high ethical standards within the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Sylvester Nwacuhe, the Controller General of Corrections, assured the public that all future disciplinary matters would continue to be handled with transparency, fairness, and in strict adherence to established processes.
