Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has praised the Super Falcons following their victory against Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Nigerian team secured a 3-2 win after coming back from a 2-0 first-half deficit in Saturday night’s match at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. Morocco took the lead with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.
Nigeria responded in the second half with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini, completing a turnaround that secured the team’s 10th WAFCON title.
Reacting to the result, Okonjo-Iweala wrote on X: “What a thrilling performance from our very own Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons in Morocco. Congratulations. You pulled it off. A super exciting match to watch. To God be the Glory!”
