Police Arrest 118 Suspects, Recover Arms, Drugs in Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested 118 suspects and recovered
firearms, suspected drugs, and other incriminating items in a sweeping crackdown on crime across the state within two weeks.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this while addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Wednesday, stating that the successes were achieved through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and rapid response to criminal activities.

According to him, those arrested were linked to a range of offences including armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, vandalism, murder, unlawful possession of firearms, and street violence.

He said that items recovered include 11 locally fabricated Beretta pistols, one English-made Beretta pistol, a cut-to-size pistol, two dane guns, nine telecom power batteries, four cutlasses, a knife, 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, as well as assorted charms.

Providing a breakdown of key operations,
he said that the command arrested two suspected kidnappers of ages 21 and 23 in the Ikorodu area of the state.

“Preliminary investigations linked them to the kidnapping and murder of a 17-year-old, Thomson Adams on April 22.

“The suspects also confessed to an earlier abduction and murder of a female victim in November 2025, identified as the ex-girlfriend of one of them, during which a ransom of N300,000 was paid, ” he said.

CP Tijani said that the command also recorded success in tackling infrastructure vandalism following intelligence from Globacom on the theft of telecom power assets.

“One suspect was arrested in Ikeja and led operatives to two other members of the syndicate in Alausa and Ikorodu. Nine stolen telecom batteries were recovered during the operation, ” he said.

The police boss said that the command also recorded arrests in connection with armed robbery incidents.

“A 25-year-old suspect was apprehended after allegedly robbing a woman at Ayetoro Bus Stop. Similarly, a 19-year-old suspect, was arrested on Anthony Bridge while attempting to rob a passerby, with further investigations leading to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols.

The commissioner said that the command also intercepted two suspected gun runners attempting to sell a Beretta pistol.

“The suspects, aged 20, were arrested during a sting operation, and investigations are ongoing to track down the alleged supplier based in Kaduna State, ” he said.

He said the command also arrested 41 suspected cultists in Iwaya, Lagos Island, Ajao Estate, Ilasan, and Festac.

“Crackdowns on cultism led to arrests of suspects, including eight suspects in Iwaya, 20 linked to rival cult clashes on Lagos Island, five suspects over a murder in Ilasan , and others in Ajao and Festac for cult-related violence, ” he said

Tijani said operatives raided criminal hideouts in Ilasan, Lekki, and Maroko on April 27, leading to the arrest of 58 suspects allegedly involved in traffic robbery, phone snatching, and harassment of residents along the Lekki corridor.

The police boss added that all suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The commissioner assured residents that the police would sustain crime-fighting efforts, stressing that criminals would find no safe haven in Lagos while urging the public to provide timely information.
