President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Lays Wreath at SYL Monument, Honors Somalia’s Youth Heroes.

Mogadishu, May 15, 2026 — The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today participated in a large commemorative ceremony marking the 83rd anniversary of the founding of the Somali Youth League (SYL) and Somalia’s Youth Day, observed annually on May 15.

The President laid a wreath at the SYL Monument in honor of the Somali independence struggle and the historic role played by Somali youth in the country’s liberation and state-building efforts.

The Somali Youth League is remembered as a unifying symbol of the Somali people and a driving force behind the national awakening that led to independence and the establishment of a sovereign Somali state.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged Somali youth to play a leading role in defending and rebuilding the nation, safeguarding national unity, and advancing state development.

He emphasized that today’s generation is expected to uphold the patriotism, unity, and vision of the founders of the SYL in order to achieve a peaceful, prosperous, and united Somalia.
