President Bola Tinubu has expressed support for a one-party political system in Nigeria, suggesting it would strengthen national unity under the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at the APC National Summit, he welcomed the wave of new members and endorsements, saying, “Welcome to the progressives, sweep them clean.”
Tinubu restated his commitment to Vice President Kashim Shettima but did not clarify if he would remain on the 2027 ticket. He reaffirmed confidence in ongoing economic reforms, defending the removal of fuel subsidies and labeling them as deeply corrupt. He referenced the recovery of over 750 properties by the EFCC as proof of his administration’s anti-corruption efforts.
The President pressed the National Assembly to pass pending tax legislation to support his economic agenda and urged Nigerians to remain patient as reforms take root. He projected industrial growth and pledged continued national development.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, compared Tinubu’s leadership style to that of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew, calling him a disciplined and visionary leader. Akume attributed the rise in defections from opposition parties to APC’s performance, urging early mobilisation for the 2027 elections.
He described the APC as a broad movement focused on unity, progress, and lasting national transformation.
