Western Cape provincial health authorities revealed Friday that social gatherings were among main drivers of the surging Covid19 infections and deaths in the province.

Speaking at a weekly digital briefing, provincial Health Departmental head, Dr Keith Cloete explained that small cluster outbreaks were detected among those who attended social gatherings.

Active Covid19 cases in the province have increased by 3000 and stand at 9,826.

Health authorities have warned of a looming third wave adding that the number of admissions in hospitals is increasing alongside daily deaths.
