Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is out of an induced coma and in recovery following emergency surgery for a serious abdominal injury, according to Mail Sport.
The 27-year-old underwent a complex procedure after sustaining the injury during Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City last weekend.
He had collided with the post during the match and, despite receiving treatment on the pitch, continued playing for a short period before eventually being substituted. Forest had already used their final substitution at the time.
Awoniyi was placed in intensive care after the operation, which was described as potentially life-saving. He is now awake and being monitored in hospital, surrounded by family.
