Tensions Spike as Trump Orders Iran Port Blockade, Dismisses Fresh Talks
The crisis in the Middle East took a sharp turn on Monday after Donald Trump signaled the start of a sweeping US naval blockade targeting Iran’s ports, while downplaying the possibility of renewed negotiations.
Speaking to reporters, Trump made it clear he was unfazed by the collapse of recent diplomatic efforts.
According to him, whether Iran returns to the negotiating table is no longer a priority.
US Central Command confirmed that the operation would begin at 10am Eastern Time, extending across Iranian Gulf ports and coastal zones.
The move effectively places key shipping routes, including the strategic Strait of Hormuz, under tight US control.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard issued a stern warning, describing the presence of foreign military vessels in the area as a violation of the existing ceasefire.
Officials in Tehran have also maintained a defiant tone, insisting the country will not yield to external pressure.
The escalation has already sent shockwaves through global markets.
Oil prices surged in early trading, with US crude jumping above $100 per barrel, while Brent crude also recorded significant gains. Stock markets reacted nervously, with declines recorded in parts of Asia-Pacific trading.
Iranian parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, mocked the development, warning that the blockade could trigger even higher fuel prices globally.
He reiterated that Iran would resist any form of intimidation.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Washington is weighing further military options, including the possibility of targeted strikes, raising fears that the situation could spiral into a broader conflict if tensions continue to rise.
