By Valentine Uchechukwu Ndukwu.

I do not think so much about a man who downplays the lessons from history. It’s either he wants to relive the past for the wrong reasons or he wants to relieve himself from the precautionary responsibilities of today..

This is the gospel according to V. JOHN SIMEON, The Mega Icon. On that note below are careful representations of events that took place on this day in the distant past.

On this day in 1684, Isaac Newton’s derivation of Kepler’s laws from his theory of gravity, contained in the paper De motu corporum in gyrum, is read to the Royal Society by Edmond Halley.

Still on this day in 1768, the first edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica was published.

According to Today in History, on this day in 1901 that the first Nobel Prize ceremony was held in Stockholm on the fifth anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.

It was on this day in 1902 that the opening of the reservoir of the Aswan Dam in Egypt.

However, on this day in 1907, the world recorded the worst night of the Brown Dog riots in London, when 1,000 medical students, protesting against the existence of a memorial for animals that have been vivisected, clash with 400 police officers.

Interestingly, it was on this day in 1909 that Selma Lagerlöf became the first female writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

In 1963 on this day, Zanzibar gained independence from the United Kingdom as a constitutional monarchy, under Sultan Jamshid bin Abdullah.

Sadly on this day in 1994, Africa witnessed the Rwandan genocide: Maurice Baril, military advisor to the U.N. Secretary-General and head of the Military Division of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, recommended that UNAMIR stand down.

Still on this day in 1996, the new Constitution of South Africa was promulgated by Nelson Mandela.

Regrettably on this day in 2005, Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crashed at Port Harcourt International Airport in Nigeria, killing 108 people.
