UN Secretary-General António Guterres has issued a grave warning about the Iran-Israel war, calling it “a moment that could shape the fate of nations” and describing the fighting as “a fire no one can control.” He urged immediate steps to de-escalate the violence before it spreads further.
Israel has launched airstrikes on more than 100 targets in Iran, including key nuclear sites, while Iran has responded with missile attacks on Israeli cities such as Tel Aviv and Haifa. Both sides report significant civilian casualties and damage to vital infrastructure.
The conflict is expanding regionally, with armed groups in Yemen and Iraq becoming involved, heightening fears of a wider Middle Eastern war. Tehran is facing severe shortages and displacement, and Israeli hospitals and research centers have also suffered.
Guterres called on both nations to return to dialogue and stressed the importance of Iran cooperating fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency to maintain nuclear oversight. The UN continues to press for a ceasefire to prevent further devastation.
As tensions soar, the global community watches anxiously, knowing that the outcome could have far-reaching implications for international peace and security.
