UN investigates deadly school bombing in Iran as scrutiny grows over possible US role
An investigation led by the United Nations is underway into one of the deadliest घटनाएँ of the ongoing war, after a missile strike on a primary school in southern Iran killed 168 children.
The attack targeted Shajareh Tayyebeh School in the city of Minab on the first day of coordinated US-Israeli military operations.
According to Iranian officials, two missiles struck the परिसर within moments of each other, killing mostly young students, many of them girls.
Speaking in Geneva, Max du Plessis, a member of the UN’s fact-finding mission on Iran, said the inquiry is still in its शुरुआती चरण but that initial evidence supports reports of mass civilian casualties.
He stressed the importance of an independent investigation to establish what happened and determine accountability.
A report monitored by AfricaWorldnews, citing earlier findings from US military investigators, indicated that American forces may have been responsible for the strike, although no final conclusion has been reached. The Pentagon has since escalated its own internal review of the incident.
If confirmed, the bombing would rank among the deadliest single घटनाएँ involving civilian casualties linked to US military action in the Middle East in recent decades.
The probe comes amid intensifying international concern over the conduct of all parties involved in the conflict.
As the war expands across multiple fronts, humanitarian agencies and rights groups are raising alarms about rising civilian deaths and the urgent need for accountability.
