USA Group and Igbo Leaders Slam Nigeria’s Hypocrisy in Detaining Nnamdi Kanu While Reintegrating Boko Haram

A group of Igbo leaders, joined by the USA-based Ambassador for Self-Determination, has strongly condemned the Nigerian government’s continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, contrasting it with the government’s decision to reintegrate Boko Haram terrorists into society under the pretext of rehabilitation.

The group criticized the government’s practice of paying off bandits, arguing that such actions undermine the country’s security and credibility.

In their statement, the leaders demanded Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release, highlighting the injustice of imprisoning him for seeking self-determination for the Igbo people, while allowing violent extremists like Boko Haram to re-enter society. They described this as an unprecedented display of hypocrisy and called for global attention to the issue.

The group also commended the international community for holding Kenya accountable in Kanu’s illegal abduction but urged further steps to identify and prosecute the Nigerian and Kenyan officials involved.

They vowed to continue advocating for Kanu’s release and the right to self-determination for all.
