Zambia faces a severe cholera outbreak, with alarming statistics indicating a grim toll on public health. So far this year, a staggering 4,240 people have contracted cholera, resulting in 190 fatalities from the diarrheal disease.
The gravity of the situation manifested dramatically at the Lusaka main post office on Cairo Road, where business ground to a halt due to an unsettling incident as a male Caucasian experienced a bout of diarrhea, further highlighting the acute nature of the cholera crisis in the Southern African country.
According to latest information released by the country’s Health Ministry, the nationwide toll continues to escalate, reaching 292 deaths, with an additional 17 reported within the last 24 hours, alongside 528 new cases.
The relentless spread of cholera has prompted the continued closure of schools, colleges, and universities as the government grapples with the outbreak.
Urban centers in Lusaka and parts of the Copperbelt are particularly affected, amplifying the urgency for comprehensive measures to contain and address the cholera surge.
