The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) has expressed its dissatisfaction with the Muslim-Muslim ticket that brought President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima into office in 2023, claiming it has not benefited the Muslim community as expected.

At a Pre-Ramadan lecture, SCSN President Sheikh Abdurrasheed Hadiyyatullah criticized the administration for neglecting the issues affecting Muslims, despite the hope that the ticket would be advantageous.

He said, “We have seen Nigerians vote for people of the same Islamic faith into the Presidency without turning the country into an unceasing battlefield, but we have not seen justice and equity done to all communities, irrespective of their faith.”

Hadiyyatullah also highlighted the political marginalization of many Muslims, despite their large population and rights as citizens.

He warned against efforts to divide Muslims in the South West, stating, “We stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in the South West and we advise those who think they can divide the Nigerian Muslim Umma to find other mischief to engage themselves.”

The SCSN leader further raised concerns over Nigeria’s worsening economic challenges, urging the government to address the growing hardships.

“The Umma looks up to us for guidance and assurances that their faith will not be sacrificed on the altar of political opportunism and greed,” he added, emphasizing that many Muslims feel betrayed by their support for this administration.
