The Presidency has confirmed the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at approximately 4:30 pm following a prolonged illness. President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to Buhari’s wife, Aisha, offering support during this heartbreaking time.
In honor of the late leader, President Tinubu has directed that flags across the country be flown at half-mast as a mark of respect. Additionally, Vice President Kashim Shettima has been tasked with traveling to the UK to oversee the repatriation of Buhari’s remains.
Buhari’s passing marks the end of an era in Nigerian politics. He served as a military leader in the 1980s and later as a democratically elected president, holding office from 2015 to 2023. The news was officially confirmed by his family through a statement from his longtime spokesperson, Garba Shehu, which included prayers for Buhari’s eternal peace.
As the nation mourns, Nigerians and the global community reflect on Buhari’s lasting impact on the country’s history, both in military and civilian leadership roles.
