AfriConfex 2025: Zimbabwe Pushes for Sustainable Infrastructure and Green Growth
Sustainability took centre stage at the Africa Infrastructure and Built Environment Conference (AfriConfex) in Bulawayo, where leaders, experts, and industry players gathered to discuss the future of Zimbabwe’s infrastructure.

The event, themed “Smart Moves: Powering Zimbabwe’s Infrastructure Evolution,” was jointly organised by the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development, and the Zimbabwe Construction Industry Association.
Speaking after touring the exhibition stands at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre and Smart City, Transport Minister Felix Mhona highlighted the importance of sustainability in building the nation’s infrastructure.
He said every construction project from roads to buildings must now consider climate change, resilience, and long-term environmental impact. Mhona added that government ministries were working together to ensure a unified approach to sustainable development.
As climate change continues to affect weather patterns and infrastructure stability, the call for greener, more resilient construction has grown louder.
Experts, government agencies, and development partners are now collaborating to promote eco-friendly projects that protect both the economy and the environment.

The discussions at AfriConfex 2025 mark a major step in Zimbabwe’s journey toward a smarter, greener, and more sustainable future.
