Christabel Azangalala: 25-Year-Old Philanthropist and Former Model Joins Kakamega Politics
At just 25, Christabel Azangalala, a former beauty queen and philanthropist from Kakamega, has announced her intention to join active politics ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
Speaking with TUKO.co.ke, Azangalala shared her inspiring journey from representing Kenya in international forums to mentoring young people at home. Her mission, she says, is to empower youth especially young women to take leadership positions and challenge outdated stereotypes that limit their voices in governance.
Christabel first gained global attention at the 2025 Best Diplomats Programme in Dubai, where her speech about youth leadership and Africa’s future earned international praise.
She has since met with African leaders like Zambia’s Hakainde Hichilema and Sierra Leone’s Julius Maada Bio, further fueling her drive to see young Africans take part in shaping the continent’s destiny.
Azangalala, who once competed in Miss World Kenya and Miss Pan Africa, says her shift from modelling to activism was motivated by a desire to address real issues affecting her community.
Her foundation has supported thousands of schoolgirls across rural Kenya by distributing free sanitary pads to keep them in school. Now, she hopes to expand her influence through politics, focusing on youth empowerment and women’s inclusion in decision-making.

Despite challenges like gender bias and lack of resources, Christabel remains determined. “It’s time young people stop waiting to be invited to the table,” she said. “We must create our own space and lead with vision.”
