NDLEA Raids Lagos Nightclub, Arrests Pretty Mike and Over 100 Others in Midnight Drug Bust
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested popular Lagos socialite, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, better known as Pretty Mike, alongside more than 100 clubgoers, following a midnight raid on Proxy Nightclub, Victoria Island.
According to NDLEA officials, the operation was carried out around 3 a.m. on Sunday, October 26, after the agency received intelligence that a drug-fueled party was taking place at the upscale nightclub located at 7 Akin Adesola Street.
Several cartons of illicit substances, including Loud (a potent strain of cannabis) and laughing gas, were recovered during the raid.
The NDLEA said some of its officers had gone undercover at the club hours before the operation to confirm the information before moving in.
The suspects, including Pretty Mike and the club’s management staff, were taken into custody for interrogation and screening at the agency’s Lagos command.
The Lagos nightclub raid came as part of a wider NDLEA operation targeting drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
In the same week, NDLEA operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) intercepted 70 parcels of cocaine weighing 3.6 kilograms, concealed inside containers of cocoa butter body cream bound for London, United Kingdom.
A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who presented the shipment, was arrested. Two others, Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, a travel agency CEO, were later picked up after a two-week investigation linked them to the smuggling attempt.
Similarly, NDLEA officers in Enugu foiled an attempt by a 35-year-old Lesotho national, Lemena Mark, to export methamphetamine hidden in herbal coffee packs to the Philippines.
Elsewhere across Nigeria, several arrests were made:
In Kwara State, officers seized nearly 22,000 capsules of tramadol hidden inside a water heater.
In Taraba, two men transporting 450,000 pills of tramadol and exol-5 were caught while pretending to deliver building materials.
In Lagos, a Lekki-based mother of two, Oyonumoh Glory Effiong, identified as a major dealer in premium cannabis strains, was arrested with 500 grams of “Loud.”
In Ondo, Kaduna, and Nasarawa States, large quantities of cannabis were seized from transporters moving the drugs along major highways.
The NDLEA also announced the arrest of elderly peddlers, including a 75-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman in Abia State — and the recovery of over 275 litres of “skuchies,” a cocktail of blackcurrant drink, cannabis, and opioids, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
In a related operation in Zamfara State, NDLEA operatives arrested a suspect, Abubakar Ibrahim, 30, found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 1,746 rounds of ammunition, believed to be heading for criminal gangs in the state’s forests.
Pretty Mike, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and controversial appearances at social events, has been a constant figure in Lagos nightlife.
He has previously stirred public debate for his eccentric displays at parties, including arriving with women on leashes and making bold statements about the city’s social circles.
His latest arrest adds a new twist to ongoing concerns about drug use and moral decay within Lagos’ entertainment scene, where parties often blur the line between luxury and lawlessness. The NDLEA says investigations are ongoing, and those found culpable will face prosecution.
