PDP in Nigeria Grieves Bayelsa Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo’s Sudden Death
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing his death as a painful and unexpected loss to both the party and the nation.
Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed in his office on Thursday and was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. His passing has thrown the Bayelsa State government and the national leadership of the PDP into mourning.
In a statement issued by the factional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the party said the news came as a heavy blow to its members across Nigeria.
The statement noted that Ewhrudjakpo was regarded within the PDP as a loyal and principled figure whose political life was marked by integrity and consistency.
The party’s National Working Committee, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, described him as a steadfast politician driven by conviction rather than convenience—someone who upheld his beliefs and values throughout his career.
The PDP extended its condolences to the Bayelsa State Government, the late deputy governor’s family, and the wider community, praying for strength for those affected and for Ewhrudjakpo’s peaceful repose.
Ewhrudjakpo, a former senator and long-standing PDP member, had been serving as deputy governor since 2020, becoming a prominent figure in the political landscape of Nigeria’s South-South region.
