Nigeria: Horror in Kaduna as gunmen storm wedding, kill 13 and whisk away guests
What began as a night of celebration in Kaduna State turned into tragedy after suspected bandits attacked a wedding gathering in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area, leaving at least 13 people dead and several others abducted.
The assailants reportedly struck late Sunday night, descending on the venue while guests were still celebrating.
Witnesses said the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, throwing the entire gathering into chaos as people scrambled for safety.
Residents say the attackers, believed to be heavily armed, operated for close to an hour, unleashing terror on the community without immediate resistance.
The sound of gunfire forced many to flee into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.
Some victims sustained gunshot injuries during the assault and were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, while others with more critical wounds were moved to facilities in Kaduna for further treatment.
Community sources confirmed that the death toll has risen to 13, with the victims already laid to rest.
However, the number of those abducted remains unclear as authorities continue to assess the situation.
Beyond the killings and abductions, the attackers reportedly looted shops in the area, carting away food items, household goods, and medical supplies from a nearby chemist.
