Trump Accuser Faces Fresh Legal Storm as US Justice Department Opens Probe

Fresh controversy has emerged in the United States after the Department of Justice reportedly opened a criminal investigation into writer and former magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll, the woman who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault decades ago.

According to reports, investigators are examining whether Carroll gave misleading testimony during legal proceedings connected to her lawsuits against Trump.

Prosecutors are said to be focusing on statements she made in a 2022 deposition, where she reportedly claimed she had not received outside financial support for the legal battle.

However, it later surfaced that billionaire businessman Reid Hoffman allegedly assisted in covering some legal expenses.

The development marks another dramatic turn in a long-running legal dispute between Trump and Carroll, which dates back to allegations that Trump sexually assaulted her inside a New York department store in the mid-1990s.

Trump repeatedly denied the accusation, insisting it never happened and dismissing Carroll’s claims publicly, triggering a separate defamation suit.

Carroll had secured major courtroom victories in recent years. In one case, a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and awarded her millions of dollars in damages.

In another, she received a much larger payout after jurors ruled that Trump defamed her through repeated public denials and remarks questioning her credibility.

The latest investigation has already stirred debate in political and legal circles, with critics raising concerns about possible political motives, while supporters argue authorities must determine whether false testimony was given under oath.

Carroll’s legal team has yet to publicly comment on the matter, while Justice Department officials have remained largely silent.
