LASUBEB chairman praises Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to public service welfare

Lagos, July 29, 2026. The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has commended Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for welfare initiatives it says are boosting morale and productivity in Lagos public service.
The Chairman, Dr Hakeem Shittu, gave the commendation at the board’s 2026 health week programme, which started on Wednesday at the LASUBEB Multipurpose Hall in Lagos.
The programme had the theme, “Listening to Your Body: Recognising Early Warning Signs”.
“Mr Governor cares deeply about our staff. He values, not only productivity, but also their welfare, ensuring they remain healthy enough to deliver efficient public service always.
“This health week allows us to assess workers’ health, identify early warning signs, provide professional advice and encourage participants to take necessary actions after receiving their results, he said.
The chairman said the programme featured medical practitioners educating the workers and conducting various tests.
He said the workers also received professional advice and necessary follow-up care on their health status.
The LASUBEB chairman urged workers to carefully review their test results, follow prescribed medical advice and seek further assistance where necessary.
He assured the workers of LASUBEB’s continued support for their wellbeing.
Also, Ms Fumilayo Jukosin, Director of Secretariat and Welfare Services, Lagos State, said the programme involved comprehensive health screenings.
Jukosin said screenings were carried out for prostate and breast cancer, and mammogram to encourage early diagnosis and timely treatment.
Jukosin educated the workers on recognising early warning signs of illness, describing preventive healthcare as essential for sustaining a healthy workforce and enhancing institutional productivity across.
“Your body constantly communicates with you and early detection saves lives.
“Staff should listen to their bodies, recognise unusual changes promptly and seek medical attention before minor health concerns become serious conditions.
“ Recognising early warning signs and seeking prompt medical attention promotes healthier lives, greater productivity, improved workforce wellbeing and more effective public service,” she said.
Jukosin discouraged indiscriminate consumption of local herbal mixtures, popularly called “agbo”, warning staff that self-medication could delay diagnosis, worsen underlying conditions and endanger lives.
A beneficiary, Mr John Oladoye, described the health screening initiative as a life-changing intervention.
Oladoye said the screening helped him to understand his health status, reduce anxiety and seek timely medical attention when necessary.
He commended the state government and the board members for prioritising workers’ wellbeing, noting that the free medical tests provided an opportunity for beneficiaries to access vital health information.
“People do not know their status until they check. This exercise has given us knowledge, removed fear and encouraged us to visit hospitals whenever we notice changes.
“We appreciate the chairman and the state governor for this opportunity. They have shown concern for our health, and promised support for anyone needing further treatment after the results, “ he said.
Another beneficiary from LASUBEB’s Teacher Development Department, Mrs Folasade Adegeye, said the health week reinforced regular health screening.
According to her, the exercise enables workers to detect illnesses early and seek timely medical care.
“This programme reminds us not to ignore changes in our bodies. Regular screening helps us know our health status, detect illnesses early and seek prompt treatment.
“We want to use this opportunity to thank our dear Gov. Sanwo-Olu for all he is doing in the state, particularly in the education sector, which cuts across students and teachers,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the annual programme, which is a three-day event, has medical practitioners from Clinix Health Ltd. and other state healthcare providers.
