Ghanaian Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo has issued an apology to Manchester United’s star player, Harry Maguire, after a controversial comparison last year sparked outrage among football fans.

Adongo, known for his outspoken views, had previously likened Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s economic performance to Maguire’s alleged own goals on the pitch.

In a parliamentary session, he remarked, “[Harry Maguire] is now a key player for Manchester, but as for our Maguire, he is now roaming at the IMF with a cup in hand.”

The analogy drew swift criticism from Manchester United fans and football enthusiasts alike, prompting Adongo to reassess his choice of words.

In his recent apology, he acknowledged the sensitivity of the comparison and expressed regret for any offense caused to the English footballer.

The question now looms: Is the apology sufficient for Manchester United fans? Social media platforms are buzzing with reactions, with some fans appreciating the MP’s acknowledgment of the inappropriateness of the comparison, while others remain skeptical about the sincerity of the apology.

Beyond the realm of Manchester United supporters, fans of other football clubs are also chiming in.

This incident has sparked a broader conversation about the intersection of politics and sports, with opinions varying on whether such analogies have a place in parliamentary discourse.

As the news circulates, the football world watches closely to see if this apology will bring an end to the unexpected clash between Ghanaian politics and the English Premier League.

The unexpected convergence of politics and football continues to raise eyebrows, leaving fans to ponder the broader implications of such interwoven narratives.
