The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) announces plans to distribute seized food items at discounted prices to mitigate food scarcity.

Beneficiaries must possess a verifiable National Identification Number (NIN). Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale emphasizes the initiative’s commitment to food security, targeting various groups like artisans and nurses.

Stricter guidelines aim to prevent misuse, with NCS emphasizing transparency and urging against resale. The sale, starting with rice at a discounted rate of N10,000 per 25kg bag, begins tomorrow across agency zonal offices. The move addresses challenges exacerbated by insecurity and exchange rate issues, aiming to curb the outflow of food items threatening national food security.
