AFCON 2025: Broos could quit if Bafana crash out against Cameroon
Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos is under growing pressure ahead of South Africa’s AFCON round-of-16 clash against Cameroon.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has warned that Broos could be forced to leave his job if the team crashes out of the tournament.
South Africa finished second in Group B, but their performances raised concerns, as they struggled in all three matches and relied on late goals to beat Zimbabwe and Angola, while failing to score against Egypt despite having a numerical advantage.
Khanye criticised Broos’ team selection, questioning why experienced and in-form players like Thembinkosi Lorch, Iqraam Rayners and Grant Kekana were left out.

Speaking on a podcast, he said the coach would struggle to explain his decisions if Bafana lose to Cameroon.
According to Khanye, some selected players have not performed well, while others who have proven themselves at club level were ignored.
Although Broos previously led Bafana to a third-place finish at AFCON in 2024 and helped them qualify for both AFCON 2025 and the 2026 World Cup, expectations were higher this time. Fans have complained about poor defending, lack of creativity and missed chances.

With only six months left on his contract, it is unlikely SAFA will sack him, but a defeat against Cameroon could lead to strong backlash and possibly push Broos to step down before his final tournament in charge.
