Blackout in Nigeria Hits Presidential Villa, Airport, Supreme Court and Major Abuja Locations
A widespread power outage has disrupted several parts of Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, leaving key government institutions, transport infrastructure, and residential areas without electricity.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday, attributing the blackout to a technical fault on the power network.
The outage affected several high-profile locations, including the Presidential Villa, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Supreme Court, the Central Area, Asokoro, Maitama, Garki districts, and surrounding communities.
Critical facilities such as the National Hospital, diplomatic missions, government offices, military barracks, hotels, and sections of the airport corridor were also impacted.
AEDC explained that engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are currently working to fix the fault and restore electricity supply to affected areas.
The company apologised to residents and institutions affected, describing the disruption as technical and assuring that power restoration efforts are ongoing.
