Nigerians in Cote D’Ivoire are urgently appealing to the Nigerian government for intervention as human trafficking along the Nigeria-Cote D’Ivoire route continues to surge.

During an NTA International program on human trafficking, Chief Onwuchelu Emeka, President of the Nigerian Community in Cote D’Ivoire, revealed that “young Nigerian girls, aged between 11 and 18, are being trafficked to Cote D’Ivoire for sexual exploitation.”

He explained that these girls are lured with false promises of lucrative jobs, only to be stripped of their mobile phones upon arrival, leaving them unable to reach out for help. Emeka described the situation as “pathetic” and called for urgent government action, stating that “many of these girls have died in the process, with no information on how to contact their parents.” He also advised parents to be cautious and avoid sending their children abroad with individuals whose identities are not verifiable.
