The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda have initiated peace talks in Luanda, Angola, aiming to address the escalating conflict in the eastern DRC. The negotiations, facilitated by Angolan President João Lourenço, involve DRC’s Foreign Affairs Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner and her Rwandan counterpart Olivier Nduhungirehe.
The talks come as DRC President Félix Tshisekedi seeks to resolve the ongoing violence in North Kivu Province, where M23 rebels, reportedly supported by Rwanda, have seized strategic territories.
Tshisekedi, currently receiving medical treatment in Europe, faces mounting pressure to restore stability in the region.
The DRC government hopes that these discussions will lead to a lasting peace and alleviate the suffering caused by the conflict.
