Egypt Inspire Comeback Win as Africa Strengthens Its Presence at World Cup 2026
Egypt produced a determined second-half response to defeat New Zealand 3–1 in their second Group G match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the fourth African side to secure a victory in the tournament so far.

After falling behind early in Vancouver at BC Place, the Pharaohs regrouped and turned the match around through goals from Mostafa Ziko, Mohamed Salah and Trezeguet, sealing an important win that keeps their group campaign firmly on track.
The result follows a steady start for Egypt, who opened their tournament with a 1–1 draw against Belgium, maintaining momentum as they push for progression beyond the group stage.
Across the tournament, African teams have begun to make their mark. Ivory Coast national football team set the tone with a 1–0 victory over Ecuador, becoming the first African side to win at this year’s competition.

They were followed by Ghana national football team, who also claimed a narrow 1–0 win against Panama, while Morocco national football team added another success with a 1–0 result over Scotland.
Despite this encouraging start for the continent, several African sides—including Senegal, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Algeria, South Africa and Tunisia, are still chasing their first win as the group stage continues.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 continues across North America, with African teams aiming to build on early results and strengthen their push toward the knockout rounds.
