The European Union announced on Saturday that it had recalled its ambassador from Niger, following concerns raised by the country’s military rulers about the way the bloc delivered aid.

An EU spokesperson stated, “The EU has therefore decided to recall its ambassador to Niamey for consultations in Brussels.”

This move comes after the military junta, which took power in a July 2023 coup, ended security and defense partnerships with the EU, further complicating relations.

It is clear that tensions between Niger’s new leadership and the EU are escalating, and it will be interesting to see how this diplomatic standoff develops.
