Ex-England U16 attacker Proud of Nigeria Choice Ahead of Historic 100th Super Eagles Cap
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi says he has no regrets choosing to represent Nigeria over England as he prepares to make history with the national team.
The 30-year-old is set to earn his 100th cap for Nigeria when the Super Eagles face Portugal in an international friendly. If he features, Iwobi will become the fastest player to reach the milestone in Nigeria’s history, surpassing the record previously held by Ahmed Musa.

Iwobi, who represented England at youth level before switching allegiance, said playing for Nigeria has always felt like home.
“I have no regrets choosing Nigeria,” he said. “I first joined the Nigeria U-23 camp and immediately felt at home. I had played for England at youth level, but Nigeria was where my heart belonged.”
The Fulham star also credited his father for supporting his decision while allowing him to choose his own path.

Reflecting on nearly 11 years with the Super Eagles, Iwobi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the three-time African champions.
Although honoured by the upcoming milestone, he remains humble about his achievements.
“It feels great to be close to 100 caps. I don’t see myself as a legend; I see myself as a Super Eagles player. I’ve enjoyed every moment of this journey,” he said.

Iwobi named his winning goal against Zambia in 2017, which secured Nigeria’s qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as his most memorable moment in national colours.
