President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, along with First Lady Mutinta Hichilema, are on a mission of diplomatic and economic significance in the heart of China with determination to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore economic opportunities, all while tackling his country’s formidable debt burden.

The visit kicked off in grand fashion as President Hichilema paid homage to the visionary leader and former Chinese President, His Excellency Deng Xiaoping.

Against the backdrop of Shenzhen City’s stunning skyline, the Zambian delegation laid a wreath at the towering six-meter high statue that immortalizes the legacy of Deng Xiaoping.

It was here, in the city where China’s economic miracle was ignited, that President Hichilema found immense inspiration in the remarkable story of Deng Xiaoping.

The former Chinese leader is universally lauded for orchestrating China’s monumental economic transformation that began in the 1970s.

During that era, China was largely isolated from the global stage, but Deng Xiaoping unveiled the revolutionary “open door policy” to the world.

This visionary policy welcomed foreign businesses to set up operations in China, marking a historic turning point for the nation.

The reforms spearheaded by Deng and his allies gradually steered China away from a planned economy and Maoist ideologies. Instead, they ushered in an era of openness to foreign investments and technology, unleashing China’s vast labor force onto the global market. These transformative reforms propelled over 800 million people out of poverty, ultimately catapulting China into the ranks of the world’s largest economies.

Hichilema, brimming with optimism, declared, “We stand on the shoulders of giants like Deng Xiaoping, who transformed their nations through visionary leadership. As we seek to strengthen our bonds with China and explore economic opportunities, we are inspired by the remarkable journey of this great leader.”

As President Hichilema continues his diplomatic mission in China, the world watches with anticipation, hoping that this historic visit will lay the foundation for a brighter future not only for Zambia but also for strengthened ties between two nations with immense potential. 🇿🇲🇨🇳
