King Charles Moves to Strip Prince Andrew of Titles and Residence Amid Scandal Fallout
Britain’s King Charles III has taken decisive action against his younger brother, Prince Andrew, ordering the removal of his remaining royal titles and his eviction from his longtime residence within the Windsor estate.
Buckingham Palace announced the move on Thursday following renewed public anger after fresh allegations surfaced from Virginia Giuffre, one of the key accusers of late American financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
In a statement, the palace said:
“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honours of Prince Andrew. He will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.”
The palace added that the 65-year-old Duke of York has been asked to vacate his home within the Windsor Castle grounds and relocate to private accommodation.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” the statement read.
“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”
Prince Andrew, the late Queen Elizabeth II’s second son, has been entangled in controversy for years over his friendship with Epstein, who died by suicide in a U.S. jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
Virginia Giuffre, who was 17 at the time of the alleged incidents, had accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her on multiple occasions, claims the prince has consistently denied. In 2022, he reached an out-of-court settlement reportedly worth millions of dollars to end her civil lawsuit in the United States.
Giuffre’s newly released memoir revisits her allegations in stark detail, reigniting public outrage and increasing pressure on the British monarchy to act decisively.
Earlier in October 2025, Andrew voluntarily renounced his title of Duke of York and other honorary positions amid growing scrutiny over his conduct.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first,” he said at the time, while maintaining his innocence.
Despite relinquishing his formal titles, Andrew retains the title of “Prince” by birthright. His ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will no longer use the title “Duchess of York,” while their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, remain members of the royal family.
The decision to strip Andrew of his remaining privileges marks one of the most significant disciplinary actions taken by the British monarchy in recent years.
It also underscores King Charles’s ongoing efforts to preserve the integrity and reputation of the royal institution amid scandals that have shaken public confidence.
Analysts say the move reflects a broader attempt by the King to modernise the monarchy and distance it from controversies that have tarnished its image both in the United Kingdom and globally.
