The Lagos State Government has announced a goal to secure at least 1,000 applications from its indigenes in the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.
This was revealed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, during a sensitisation campaign held at the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area and the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
The campaign focused on raising awareness about the Nigerian Army’s 89 Regular Recruits Intake for tradesmen and non-tradesmen.
Salu-Hundeyin disclosed that around 600 Lagos residents had already applied, but the state is pushing to exceed 1,000 applicants before the May 17 deadline. She noted that President Bola Tinubu has directed that each state contribute at least 150 recruits, and Lagos aims to surpass this benchmark through proactive mobilisation.
She emphasized the prestige of military service, describing it as a noble duty to protect the nation and its citizens. “This is a national call to service—an opportunity to serve Nigeria and Lagos State,” she said.
Encouraging eligible indigenes between the ages of 18 and 26 to apply, Salu-Hundeyin highlighted the benefits of military service, including access to free training and education in various professional fields such as law and medicine.
Also speaking at the event, the Vice Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Mrs. Mojisola Badmus, appealed to parents to support their children’s enlistment in the Armed Forces. She stressed that military service goes beyond combat, offering diverse career opportunities while playing a critical role in national security.
“Defending our homeland is essential—if we don’t protect it, who will?” she said.
