Libya and Italy Launch First Joint Fish Export Company for European Markets
Libya and Italy have partnered to launch their first joint company that will export fish from Libya to European markets.
The new venture, called the Mediterranean Bridge Company, is a partnership between Italy’s Medina company and the Libyan Shrimp Fishing Company.
It will be based in the Misrata Free Zone and has already received permits from the Tripoli-based interim government, with backing from Italian institutions.
The project goes beyond fish exports. It will include building a modern processing and packaging facility in Misrata, equipped with digital technologies to ensure quality.
Training programs will also be created for young Libyan fishermen, giving them hands-on skills both in classrooms and at sea. This aims to develop local expertise and improve the fishing industry in Libya.
To boost value, a new regional brand called *Marsablu will be introduced. This label will promote sustainability, food safety, and high standards, while also helping Libyan companies compete internationally.

According to project leaders, the initiative is designed not just to export seafood, but to create long-term cooperation, transfer knowledge, and strengthen Libya’s role in the “blue economy.”
