Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim, has taken a jab at Manchester United following their preseason defeat to the ASEAN All Stars at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
Addressing the team’s recent struggles, Ibrahim commented on their disappointing 2024/25 campaign, during which Manchester United narrowly avoided relegation in the Premier League and lost the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur.
The match in Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by a crowd of 72,000, ended in defeat for United, prompting the Prime Minister to post a sarcastic message on Facebook. Quoted by The Mirror, Ibrahim wrote:
“Oh no! Manchester United failed to win a trophy again. Looks like you guys are going to have a ‘headache’ next season. Hopefully you don’t get relegated to the Championship.”
