Yunusa Tanko, the spokesperson for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, expressed his disappointment with the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which did not favor the party. During a session held in Abuja on Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected the petitions submitted by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25 presidential election. In response to the judgment, Tanko spoke with The Punch on Thursday, stating, “As far as we are concerned, we presented our cases beyond a reasonable doubt, but the court chose to take a different perspective and disregarded our plea. They have reached their decision.””As believers in democracy, we will respect the legal process and turn to the court of public opinion – the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They can evaluate this judgment in light of their current circumstances and the credibility of the established leadership.”Tanko continued, “We will continue to abide by the law and uphold democratic principles. It’s important to remember that democracy also allows for public discourse when individuals feel aggrieved. We have done our part, and now we leave this matter to the court of public opinion.”He reiterated that the party had called for Tinubu’s disqualification, believing that he did not meet the necessary qualifications for the presidential election. He added, “We also raised concerns regarding the interpretation of the 25 percent qualification requirement for the Federal Capital Territory and the processes followed by INEC in accordance with the Electoral Act, all of which were not considered.”Tanko concluded by mentioning that Peter Obi would announce his political plans in the near future.”
