The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) criticizes President Bola Tinubu’s government for failing to honor agreements with labor unions.
They cite issues with the implementation of the N35,000 Wage Award, delays in the Port Harcourt refinery project, and the absence of the National Minimum Wage Negotiation Council. The NLC condemns government interference in trade unions and accuses the government of using violence against union leaders.
The year 2023 saw increased division and distrust due to politicians exploiting societal fault lines for their gain. The NLC’s president was allegedly abducted and brutalized, sparking concerns about a connection to the stalled wage implementation.
