The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Cybercrime Unit has made remarkable strides in 2024, recovering a staggering N8 billion from cybercriminal activities. This success highlights the Force’s continued commitment to tackling online fraud and ensuring justice for victims.
Four major suspects were recently arrested, including Douglass Victor, Egbo Efe Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody. In a press briefing, Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared that the National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) had recovered N8,821,001,881.80, 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000.
These funds have been returned to their rightful owners, offering a sense of justice to the victims of these crimes. “These impressive recoveries demonstrate our unwavering dedication to protecting Nigerians from the rising threat of cybercrime,” said Adejobi.
In addition to the financial success, the NPF Cybercrime Unit arrested over 751 individuals involved in fraudulent activities in 2024 alone. The unit also seized a variety of digital tools used by criminals, including 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops, 46 routers, 4 servers, a drone, and four Starlink devices.
The police further confiscated valuable assets connected to the perpetrators, including 16 properties, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles. These actions have significantly disrupted the infrastructure of cybercrime operations in Nigeria.
In recognition of these accomplishments, the NPF-NCCC was named Africa’s top cybercrime unit for 2024 by INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore, outpacing 54 other African nations.
“These successes reflect our relentless effort to enhance the safety of Nigerian citizens in the digital world,” Adejobi added.
